Gaaays in Spaaace is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in August of 2016 by Dan Deevy. He saw the first openly gay character finally portrayed on Star Trek and decided to mark the occasion with a party, with a celebration of representation.

Finally the myth could be dispelled that in the future homosexuality had been “cured” as though it were a disease.

That single party has lead to over 200 events around the country, building community and using Sci-Fi fandom as a springboard for diversity and inclusion.

Gaaays in Spaaace events begin by bringing the fandom together in a safe and inclusive environment focused on the LGBTQIA+ community but always lead to a crowd of people from all walks of life, brought together thru their shared values and love of Sci-Fi.

From the Beginning Dan’s intention was for the organization to go beyond advocating for representation in fictional media and to create that future of equality TODAY by bringing together the worlds of science fiction and actual science.
